D.R. Horton to Further Invest in Relationship with Tennessee Center for Applied Technology

TCAT to compete at Bristol Motor Speedway’s “Race to Build”, a collegiate competition to provide housing free of charge to veterans.

D.R. Horton’s Northeast Tennessee division is sponsoring Tennessee Center for Applied Technology’s (TCAT) participation in the 9th annual “Race to Build” collegiate competition hosted by Bristol Motor Speedway and Appalachia Service Project.

“Race to Build 2023 will provide an opportunity to highlight two great needs in our community: affordable housing and workforce development,” said Walter Crouch, President and CEO of Appalachia Service Project. “Where better to do that locally than at Bristol Motor Speedway with community partners like TCAT and D.R. Horton? And to top it off, a family will receive a new home, mortgage free!”

The announcement marks TCAT’s first appearance in the three day competition, where University Construction Management programs from around the country come to Bristol to build a home from start to finish, competing for national recognition, cash prizes and most importantly providing a home, free of charge, for a veteran family of Northeast Tennessee.

“We are excited to see this relationship come to fruition. Working together and with such high levels of support,” states David Hicks, TCAT President. “We’re building bridges that will reap educational and economic benefits for years to come for students, families and the communities we serve.”

This sponsorship is a continuation of community investments made in support of regional construction trades. In March of this year, D.R. Horton announced a scholarship to support students attending TCAT’s residential construction trades program at both the Sullivan North extension campus, along with the upcoming Boone’s Creek campus. D.R. Horton and local supply partners, Builders FirstSource and Ferguson, are excited to support workforce development in the area and continue to support thousands of jobs with new home construction in the area.

“The residential construction trades are seeing a shift over the next ten years,” Barak Saltzman, City Manager for D.R. Horton in Northeast Tennessee, states, “We are excited to support a new generation joining this amazing industry, while also giving back to veterans who have minimal financial means for safe, new housing. We are excited to be a part of an upward cycle of prosperity in Northeast Tennessee.”
